Most unusual job so far - a Dog Coat

February 13, 2015

Recently I had a phone call from a lovely client of mine, she said 'I know this is unusual, and you can say no if you want to!' it immediately piqued my interest!

Her lovely dog Beau got a new coat about a year ago, unfortunately it just didn't fit her. Much tooing and froing between the manufacturer and Beau's 'parents' and they got to where we are last week. Can I make adjustments to a dogs coat. Of course I can!

Beau came along for a fitting (I kid you not!) and I set to work on making this coat fit poor Beau.

The first thing that had to be done was to remove the original zip, make the zip a full length zip and remove some of the excess fabric by taking it in at the zip. The end result is a coat that Beau can get on easily and which her parents can do up easily!

The next job was to make the armholes bigger, as they were previously Beaus range of movement was reduced, so I enlarged the holes taking advantage of the fact the fabric is non-fraying and just sewing a stay stitching line around the hole.

The end result is a warm dog at the end of a long walk. I hope Beau enjoys using her coat!
